Gardens in the City: San Francisco Residence Parks

Identified themes, synthesized information, and wrote a narrative of the historic context of the early 20th century residence parks, including important patterns, events, people, architectural types, and cultural values.

 

California High Speed Train, San Francisco to San Jose, EIR-EIS

Wrote the historic context statement for the 47-mile long project involving three counties and seventeen cities and towns. 

 

Oceanview-Merced-Ingleside (OMI), San Francisco

Identified themes, synthesized information, and wrote a narrative of the historic context of the OMI District, including important patterns, events, people, architectural types, and cultural values. Report was adopted by the City of San Francisco.

 

Parkside District, San Francisco

Downtown Precise Plan, Redwood City

Conducted historic impact assessments of several new developments pursuant to the Downtown Precise Plan.  Developed the first mitigation measure under the plan for historic resources at 303 and 321 Fuller Streets.  Testified before the Historic Resources Advisory Committee and the Planning Commission. Academy of Art University, EIR, San Francisco

Surveyed 662 properties across downtown San Francisco for use in a database of historic properties.     

 

Academy of Art University, Conditional Use Historic Assessment. San Francisco

Analyzed the historic alterations of 27 commercial, apartment, hotel, and church buildings, including seven interiors based on permit history, historic photos, and site visits.    

 

Oceanview, San Francisco

Surveyed 1,100 properties dating from the 19th and early 20th century and completed 93 DPR 523B forms. Determined that 38 properties were eligible for local historic designation.

 

Market & Octavia Area Plan Historic Resource Survey, San Francisco  

Performed field work and research for the 1,500-parcel, involving 1,563 DPR 523A forms, 155 DPR 523B forms, and 8 Historic District DPR 523D forms containing 719 properties.

 

Almaden Court, San Francisco

Performed field work and researched and completed 24 DPR 523A and 523B forms and one District DPR 523 form for a cul-de-sac of

stucco-clad, Revivalist-style residential buildings constructed between 1936 and 1941 on the site of the former Odd Fellows Cemetery.

 

 

 

 
National Register Nominations
 

Southern Pacific Railroad Bayshore Roundhouse, Brisbane

Performed archival research, field drawings, and photography to justify listing the early 20th century roundhouse on the National Register of Historic Places. Wrote all the sections of the nomination and prepared the submission. The nomination was accepted by the Keeper of the National Register on March 26, 2010.

 

Hagemann Farm Historic District, Livermore

Performed archival research, site survey, field drawings, and photography to document 18 contributory and one non-contributory buildings and structures making up the 19th century Hagemann Farm Historic District. Wrote section 8 of the National Register nomination and contributed to the report’s preparation. The nomination was accepted by the Keeper of the National Register on January 10, 2008.

Section 106 Historic Evaluations and Surveys

 

5th Avenue Pump House, Redwood City

The project was to demolish the Fifth Avenue Pump House and replace it with an upgraded reinforced-concrete block building. The evaluation concluded that the 5th Avenue Pump House did not appear eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places; therefore, there were no effects on historic resources and no mitigation measures were necessary.

 

Jack Rabbit to Big Sky Meadow Transmission Line Project, Gallatin National Forest, MT

Conducted on-site survey and research in compressed timeframe in conjunction with U.S. Forest Service to determine the eligibility of 68 recreation residences (log cabins) for the National Register.

 

California High Speed Train, San Francisco to San Jose, EIR-EIS

Surveyed 2,000 properties and completed 80 DPR A forms. 

 

Veterans Administration, Fresno Hospital Campus

Surveyed and researched the 1950-era Fresno VA hospital, determined its historical significance, and the effects of a construction project on historic resources. Although designed by noted Bay Area architects Masten and Hurd, the buildings slated for demolition were not distinctive and had lost integrity. 

 

Housing Authority of the City of Paso Robles, Oak Park Housing Project

Performed records search, archival research, site survey, and photography to establish the historic significance of the buildings on the 30-acre site. Prepared Department of Parks and

Recreation 523 forms and concluded that the buildings were not eligible for listing on the National Register of Historic Places.

 

Consolidated Area Housing Authority of Sutter County, Maple Park Housing Project,  

Performed records search, archival research, site survey, and photography in Live Oak to establish the historic significance of the buildings on the 10-acre site. Prepared Department of Parks and Recreation 523 forms and concluded that the buildings were not eligible for listing on the National Register of Historic Places.

Mississippi Homeowner Assistance Grant Program, Mississippi Development Authority, Gulfport, MS

Established a field organization and implemented a complex Programmatic Agreement to conduct historic evaluations in four coastal counties in Mississippi. Performed 50 historic resource evaluations. 

 

Berkeley Corporation Yard, Berkeley

Performed archival research, site survey, and photography to establish the historic significance of 14 buildings on the 4.9-acre site. Prepared Department of Parks and Recreation 523 forms and concluded that the buildings were not eligible for listing on the National Register of Historic Places.
